Steel Storage Container Delivery
Containers are delivered on flatbed trucks and placed on your property. Same day delivery is sometimes available, but in general most containers are delivered within 3-5 days. If you are planning on renting or buying a steel storage container, it's a good idea to schedule delivery as soon as possible. If you have your own flatbed truck capable of picking up and transporting a container you may come directly to the container depot and pick it up.
How Much Does Shipping Container Delivery Cost?
Delivery charges usually cost about $100 each way. Always make sure to ask whether your quoted price includes delivery fees.
Preparing Your Site For Delivery - Choosing Where to Keep It
- Find a firm, flat surface - containers need to be kept on a relatively flat, firm surface. Railroad ties can be used to keep your container level. Most customers keep containers on dirt, concrete or asphalt, gravel, grass, in parking lots or on driveways.
- Make sure the truck can reach it - the delivery truck needs to be able to reach the drop site. The delivery truck also needs to be able to drive on a firm surface as the delivery trucks are very heavy (over 40,000 lbs). The trucks require 13.5 ft of overhead clearance when the container is on the flatbed truck, and at least 16 ft of clearance while the container is being lowered to the ground. A 40 ft container needs about 120 ft of runway, and about 60 ft for a 20 ft container, to drop the container on the ground. It's a good idea to measure and stake where you plan on putting the container so that you know for sure that it will fit.
Keeping Your Container in Good Condition
- Keep doors level - your container should be level when placed, ensuring that the doors are level. If it's not level the doors will become difficult to open and close, and can often lead to leaks or even damaged doors.
- Don't leave a container in standing water - standing water can cause the container to age rapidly. Shipping containers will rust and eventually the floor will become damaged if left in a pool of water. Containers should be placed on wood blocks or railroad ties if they are in a location where water tends to pool.
