Alion Awarded U.S. DoD SNIM Technology Support Contract Valued at up to $2 Billion

Under SNIM Contract, Technology Solutions Company to Support Military’s Expanding Need to Integrate, Share and Secure Information

08:32 GMT, June 3, 2010 MCLEAN, Va. | Information is the most potent weapon in the U.S. Department of Defense’s (DoD’s) arsenal. Recognizing the need to improve access, sharing and security of information, the DoD has awarded the Software, Networks, Information, Modeling and Simulation (SNIM) Contract, valued at up to $2 billion, to Alion Science and Technology, an employee-owned technology solutions company.

“Access to information is a deciding factor in the success of military operations. Under SNIM, Alion’s expertise can be focused on helping the DoD achieve greater control over and insight to the data that is necessary to support national security objectives,” said Bahman Atefi, Chairman and CEO of Alion. “In addition, we will continue our long-standing support of the DoD’s modeling and simulation requirements, delivering expertise in live/virtual/constructive simulations and helping to promote newer, effective solutions such as serious gaming.”

“Alion’s team will provide expertise and technical assistance for software analysis, information assurance, knowledge management, and modeling and simulation,” explained Lt. Gen. Richard E. "Tex" Brown III (USAF, Ret.), Alion Senior Vice President, who is the company’s Program Manager for the SNIM Contract. “Activities from information assurance to systems design to modeling and simulation of military infrastructure fall within the contract’s scope, and our team has proven capabilities to deliver effective, cost-sensitive solutions in all of these areas.”

SNIM consolidates the customer-funded efforts of three of the DoD’s Information Analysis Centers (IACs), which are under the direction of the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC) and act as clearinghouses for expertise and assistance with technical challenges. The contract combines Technical Area Tasks (TATs) previously performed under the Data and Analysis Center for Software (DACS), Information Assurance Technology Analysis Center (IATAC) and Modeling and Simulation Information Analysis Center (MSIAC). Alion currently operates MSIAC on behalf of the DoD, along with two other IACs focused on Weapons Systems Technology and Advanced Materials, Manufacturing and Testing.

The five-year, indefinite quantity/indefinite delivery (IDIQ) contract was awarded to only 9 companies. Alion’s team includes General Dynamics Information Technology, Inc. (GDIT), IBM, CIBER and Accenture as well as dozens of small business partners providing specialized capabilities in related technical areas.

The work is sponsored by the Defense Technical Information Center, ATTN: DTIC-I, 8723 John J. Kingman Rd., Ste 0944, Fort Belvoir, VA 22060-6218. Approved for public release. Distribution unlimited.
